ABOUT THE INSTITUTE
The Institute of Conceptual Research (ICR)
is a contemporary educational initiative dedicated to the study of perception, cognition, internal insight and meaning-making through practice.
Rather than beginning with medium, technique, or industry outcomes, ICR begins with the processes that precede them; attention, perception, interpretation, memory, emotion, cognition and thought.
Through research, education, and creative practice, ICR investigates how ideas become forms, how meaning becomes material and thinking becomes practice.
At ICR, creativity is understood not as talent or self-expression alone, but as a cognitive process through which individuals construct understanding, generate significance, and shape new ways of seeing within the art and design world.
We believe that every drawing, object, image, performance, design or artwork begins long before it becomes visible; with the formation of meaning.
Therefore, our central question is simple:
How does meaning become material?
ICR exists to study what happens before creation.
